A floor sweeper does three jobs at once. It loosens debris, lifts it into a hopper, and controls the fine dust that a broom would throw back into the air. Every machine in the range, from a push-along hand-held to a ride-on, uses some version of the same system.

## 1. Side brushes pull debris in

Angled side brushes sit at the front corners and sweep debris from edges, kerbs and corners into the machine's path. They're what let a sweeper clean right up to a wall or racking leg.

## 2. The main broom lifts it into the hopper

A cylindrical main broom spins across the full cleaning width and flicks debris backwards into the hopper. Sweepers either throw debris forward over the broom (direct throw) or use the broom to lift it over the top (over-throw). Over-throw designs usually handle bulky and heavier debris better.

## 3. Vacuum and filters control the dust

A fan creates negative pressure inside the hopper so fine dust is drawn onto a filter rather than escaping. Panel or cartridge filters catch the particles; a filter shaker knocks them loose so suction stays strong through the shift.

—Panel filters suit general warehouse and factory dust.

—Cartridge and polyester filters handle damp or heavier dust loads.

—Higher-grade filtration matters where dust is hazardous, such as silica.

## 4. Power and drive

Smaller machines are pushed and run on batteries. Walk-behind and ride-on machines add traction drive, and larger ride-ons may use LPG, petrol or diesel for long outdoor shifts. Lithium batteries charge faster and need no watering; lead-acid costs less upfront.

GOOD TO KNOW

Sweepers collect dry debris. If you also need to wash and dry the floor, you need a scrubber, or a combination machine.
