A good used machine can do the same job as a new one for less. The checks below help you tell a sound machine from one that will need money spent on it soon.
Before you look
—Know the working width, power source and tank or hopper size you need.
—Check that parts and servicing are available for the make and model.
—Ask for the hour meter reading and any service history.
On inspection
—Batteries: age, type and how long they hold charge under load.
—Brushes, side brooms and squeegee blades: remaining wear.
—Skirts, seals and filters: tears, gaps or blockages.
—Hydraulic hoses and fittings on larger sweepers: leaks or weeping.
—Tanks and hopper: cracks, corrosion and lid seals.
—Tyres, brakes, lights and horn.
Run it
Watch the machine clean a real floor. A sweeper should leave no trail of debris or dust; a scrubber should leave the floor nearly dry with no streaks. Listen for unusual noise from motors and the brush drive.
GOOD TO KNOW
Our used machines are checked and serviced in our Cornubia workshop before sale. Ask us what was done on any machine you are considering.
