What affects the price of a sweeper or scrubber?

The choices that move the price of a floor machine up or down, and the running costs to plan for.

REVIEWED 20 OCTOBER 2026 BY MARK SCULL, OWNER · SWEEPERS PTY LTD

Sweepers PTY LTD quotes every machine on request rather than publishing prices, because two machines with the same model name can be configured very differently. These are the choices that make the biggest difference.

The machine itself

Factor
How it affects the price
Type and size
Ride-ons cost more than walk-behinds, and wider working widths cost more than narrow ones.
Power source
Battery, petrol, LPG and diesel machines are priced differently; lithium batteries usually cost more up front than lead-acid.
Brush system
Disc, cylindrical and orbital heads suit different floors and are priced differently.
Drive
Self-propelled machines cost more than push models.
Controls and connectivity
Touchscreen controls and fleet management add to the price over basic panels.
Filtration and options
Higher-grade dust filters, extra side brushes, vacuum wands and lights are often optional extras.

New or used

A used machine costs less, but the price depends on its hours, the condition of the batteries and wear parts, and whether parts are still available.

Running costs

—Wear parts: brushes, squeegee blades, skirts and filters.
—Scheduled servicing.
—Battery replacement over the machine's life.
—Detergent for scrubbers, or fuel for engine-powered sweepers.

How you pay

Buying outright, hiring and financing spread the cost differently. Hire suits short jobs and trials; finance spreads the purchase over fixed repayments.
